Bee - Chains
Women who wear them in a variety of gold and silver length or thickness do it for allure and attraction. And while that may still be true nowadays, chains are also worn as part of a jewellery ensemble that helps transform a simple, everyday wardrobe.
Today, you can find a several types designed and made using plenty of materials, and in a host of different patterns. Women are usually drawn to what is jazzy and trendy, while the men stick to the simple, classic and understated.
Before you set out to buy a chain for you or your loved-ones, some things should be taken into account first, particularly if you are buying jewellery online this to go with pendants.
Use
Determine how the neck piece would be used. If it is meant as an everyday piece, it would be a good idea to pick one that is simple and of regular length to avoid wearing it down. But if it is meant for a special occasion, picking an elaborate or embellished piece would be ideal, since this is the right event for showing off.
Would the chains come with pendants? A pendant or charm can drastically alter the way it looks, so pick one that complements it. It should not overpower the pendant, but just the same, the pendant should not undervalue the chain.
Length
Consider the person who is going to wear the jewellery. Ever notice how older women look better with long lengths than short ones? It is because those that hang above the neckline could draw attention to the neck and face, when these physical features are less than perfect with someone who is older. Longer pieces will keep that off the focus.
The standard length is 45 cm, which means this is not too short or too long. Most everyday necklaces are of this length, and anything longer or shorter than that is meant to be worn for effect and impact, like the 40 cm choker length or 50 cm long neck.
If you choose one that is too long, such as the 55 cm extra-long neck or 80 cm opera length, you could risk snagging it or getting it caught in something so easily. Thus, wear these with care and caution.
Material
The most common types of chains are silver or sterling silver and different types of gold -- white gold, rose gold and Italian gold. If you are considering gold with karats, take note that some of these may come with alloy. Without it, the gold jewellery will not be as durable.
Italian gold are usually 14kt and some gold are made of 14kt gold, but can be "plated" with 18kt. This plating, however, can fade in due time. Ask your jeweller about this before buying.
Design
Long or short, they can snag, tangle or kink because of how they are designed. There are gorgeous flat chain types, such as the herringbone, omega or snake, that are priced so expensively but they are quite high maintenance. If you bend it, it will not look the same anymore. For what it's worth, links, such as the curb, the mariner or the anchor, may look basic and common, but they are the easiest to wear and maintain. You could even sleep wearing it.
Look into the clasp, as there are also different types. Lobster clasps are the most durable and safest. This type of clasp is soldered, so it will not break. You cannot risk losing your precious pendant with this kind of clasp.
Some may feel light even if they look big and bulky from afar. This happens when the insides are actually hollow and done purposely so that it will not be heavy to wear. The problem with a hollow chain, however, is that it can dent easily. When you are using it every day, it could wear out faster.
Guarantees
Your chain, just like any piece of jewellery, deserves to be protected and cared for, and buying one with a guarantee makes your investment worth it. The guarantee is for any colour changes or tarnishing, which should not happen if you are buying this from a reliable jeweller. The guarantee may also cover breaking of the clasp.
At Bee Jewellery, all pieces come with a 10-year guarantee, as well as a friendly return policy.
